Hello Everyone!

Even though this year the Romanian group is not an active part of the “Sister Classes” Project, we’re still following what’s going on here. I must say I’m impressed with everybody’s work, so congratulations!
I am embedding below a presentation I delivered this week at WCES 2009, a world conference on educational sciences, held in Cyprus. The presentation is based on our experience with this global community of English language practice. I hope you’ll enjoy it :-) For any questions you can email me at the address on the last slide.
Keep up the good work!

How to Study by Nasser Bader

Written on January 7, 2009 – 6:55 am | by Dot MacKenzie

Studying is very important for us as it is the way to reach our goals, e.g. becoming an engineer or doctor and so on.  In this essay, I will discuss how to study.

The first way is to organize your time and not spend all day playing, and also not all day studying.  The second way is to try to study in a group, so that if you have any problem, you can ask your friends, and also you will enjoy your time.

The third way is to try to take a rest from studying at the weekend, so you can go with your family or friends to restaurants or cinemas and avoid boredom from studying.  The fourth way is to try to study enough time before the exam, not one or two days before it, because if you do this, you will get worried and nervous, and you will lose lots of marks in the exam.

To conclude, we should follow many steps to study in the right way and also we should work hard and be patient to reach our goals and serve our countries.

Y-Not Group

Written on December 31, 2008 – 5:04 am | by Dot MacKenzie

Mohamed Al-Najdi in section 162/1 wrote a short essay about his company.

8 guys are interested in art, so they made a small company called the “Y-Not Group”.  I am one of them and work as the P.R. and marketing manager.  In this essay, I will talk about the Y-Not Group and the benefits that I have got from it.

In the beginning, we have free time and we don’t know how to spend it, so we decided to spend it in a useful way with something that will help us in the future.  Y-Not is an art group which paints everything:  clothes, ceramics, glass and even eggs. We don’t just paint, because we do handwork, too, and even know how to make Swarovski eggs.

From when we started until now, we have got many benefits.  First, we have gained self confidence.  Before we felt shy to speak with anyone that we don’t know about anything, but now we can do it, even if there are a lot of people.  Also, in the past, we didn’t know the value of time.  We spent our time doing silly things, but now we know that every second equals 1 kilo of gold.

In conclusion, everyone must spend his free time in useful ways.  We spend it with the Y-Not Art Group and have got a lot of benefits.  The two most important ones are self confidence and time management.  Finally, I wish the best for the Y-Not Group.

Friends by Mohamed Aied

Written on December 19, 2008 – 3:09 am | by Dot MacKenzie

Friends are the people that are close to me and I respect and trust them more than others. In this essay, I will prove how it is necessary to choose righteous friends, and how friendship is useful.

Our Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said: “Individuals follow the same way and thinking as their close friends”. (At-Tirmidhi) Here our prophet stimulates us to be careful when we choose our close friends because they may influence our behavior. Also our prophet said:” Let each of you be careful about who you take as your closer friend.” (At-Tirmidhi) That means I must choose righteous friends who will never dissimulate or cheat me, so therefore I can trust him and feel tranquil about him.

Friendship has uncountable advantages. It has a great role in our society. The psychologist (Epstein) says that: The friendship of children contributes to a significant rise in social skills and ethical values” .Your friends will help you to accomplish your necessary tasks and carry them out with you. Finally, Islam stimulates people to have righteous friends and follow them.

In conclusion, friendship is very useful and has beneficial effects as psychologists say. Nobody can live without friends or he or she will be a recluse. I suggest you choose yours carefully.

Bill Of Rights Presentations

Written on November 23, 2008 – 5:29 pm | by Larry Ferlazzo

Students in our United States History class have been studying the U. S. Bill of Rights.  In addiiton, they learned about the United National Declaration of Human Rights, and the South African Bill of Rights.

Afterwards, they made “Flowgrams” identifying what key rights they would include if they started their own country.  You can see three examples of their presentations in this post.

Feel free to leave written comments in the “Comment” section at the bottom of the post.
